A typhoon is simply a tropical cyclone (generic name for all tropical storms, hurricanes and typhoons) that forms in the northwest Pacific ocean, east of the Date line and west of the Indian ocean (Where typhoons that cross into that ocean are given the generic name "Cyclone"). It doesn't spin clockwise, it doesn't form in the entire Pacific ocean, (Storms that form around North American Pacific are called Hurricanes) despite the asinine answers you might see on Answers.
And typhoons tend to be larger because they have a larger ocean basin that they travel on. A large storm doesn't make a storm a typhoon.

A Typhoon is the exact same thing as a hurricane it is just called a different name on the other side of the world.

Typhoons are in the Indian or Pacific Oceans. Hurricanes are in the Atlantic Ocean or the Caribbean. Otherwise, they're the same thing.

a typhoon is in the pacific islands area while a hurricane is usually started near those continents. and typhoons are bigger.

im not sure i just saw some special on the discovery channel about it the other day too and i forgot- i know they said its the exact same thing except typhoons are what people in Asia refer to hurricanes as. maybe one was over land and the other water--- i dunno- same thing tho.
