Could be hours or could be weeks. The mucus plug coming out just means the cervix is beginning to thin but has no bearing on when labor will actually start.

I've heard that if the mucous is a bloody plug, labor will begin within 48 hours. It took me 8 days though so obviously it can vary. The water may or may not break until it's broken in the hospital by a nurse or doctor.

Usually within 24 to 48 hours contraction will begin. You may or may not notice the contraction at first but they will become gradually stronger. You water may not break until you are 8 or 9 centimeters dialated. Only about 20% of membranes rupture (water breaking) in labor. Usually the doctor has to break the sac. Good luck let us know when your child is born. Congrats!

No need to call the dr. If you want to tell him/her at your next apointment then go ahead but this is nothing that you need to call about.
Like others have answered...it could be weeks, it could be tomorrow. The plug coming out means nothing more than your body is nearing the end of pregnancy. If the mucus had blood in it then theat is a better sign that labor is coming soon but with just the plug...it could be weeks.

Many women lose the plug and don't go in labor right away or even day later. You can go a month or more sometimes with your plug out. Only baby knows when baby will come. Doctors can guess but they don't know for sure.

Your mucous plug can regrow if labor doesn't come in about 48 hours.
Losing the mucous plug really doesn't tell you much about when you will go into labor. It can come out all at once or in little bits over a period of time. And like I said, it can regrow.
With my first it took about a week between when I lost my plug and when labor started.

Unfortunately, only mother nature knows. If you are anxious, I would suggest that you take long walks. Be active. Your water still may not break but may start the contractions enough to put you in labor. Congratulations and Good Luck.

It depends, after I lost mine my water never broke it leaked a little; that's why my doctor had me come in to the hospital so they could keep an eye on everything. It was a whole day before the baby arrived.
