The term 'Go-Go' refers to a nightclub in the early 1960's when
rock & roll was still cool, in my view rock & roll went downhill after
the Beatles cut Pete Best out, but getting back to the point of the question, 'go go dancing' was dancing in the 'go-go' nightclubs
to ''boss' and 'gear' music/tunes such as Gerry & The Pacemakers, Chad & Jeremy, Peter & Gordon, Petula Clark,
and the pre-Pete Best-less SILVER Beatles, well as a bunch of
American acts--my dad & mom met in one of those places and
I was 'created' in the backseat of a 1965 Pontiac GTO!
Great dances back then, too. :).

Girls danced in miniskirts, and boots in cages on teen shows such as 'Hulabaloo', 'Shindig' in the 1960s. I believe Elvira & Goldie Hawn got their starts that way.

There were too many dances to mention, but a few were the 'The Bugaloo', 'The Jerk', 'Shimmy', 'The Dog', 'The Dirty Dog', 'The Chicken', 'The Twist', 'The Swim' etc.
