since california is a "no fault" state (re a divorce) you will be dicorced within 6 monts. You also will not get anything, since you would be divorced by default. If you have children and or material posessions that are close to you, I would strongly recommend to get an attorney. Also make sure that there are no Life-or Retirement insurances, that has been paid with community funds, because you are entiteled to half. Good luck to you, I am going through the same thing right now in California.

All I know is that my husband went through two years getting his divorce finalized before we could get married because his ex-wife took forever to sign the papers. She was the one who rushed him to the alter because she was afraid she was going to lose him when he joined the marines. Then she decided to join 6 months later and then there was just too many men to give up the opportunity to be single again. She wanted the divorce six month into the marriage, and she wanted him to pay for the paperwork. Here we are married for 13 years and she still continues to pop-up in our life wanting to know how we are doing.

I am not sure what you mean by divorce papers. Do you mean a final decree? Or do you mean a declaration, response or MSA? In any case, CA is a no fault state, so the petitioner can still obtain a divorce. The details of which (property, custody etc) will be decided by the court.

Same as anywhere else: you refuse to sign, first of all you get nothing, and second of all after 6 months you'll be declared divorced anyway....so check with your local family court and/or get an attorney....good luck

I believe the divorce will still go through after a certain amount of time.
Of course you could call a para legal or an attorney, they would be able to tell you more. Even the clerk at the courthouse maybe able to tell ya.

It does not stop the proceedings. It takes a bit longer to finalize. If you are refusing. just let go and move on. Get into a support group to cope, but remember this is not the end.
