There are people out there that need social security...as of right now.
Those people are homeless, mothers of three children with no father, the poor people that have retired, what about them.
I for one receive money from my dead fathers benefits, i don't know where i would be with out it.
I rather not even think about it.
IT IS NOT CRAP!
You are helping people that need that money, even though you might need it yourself, the people that get
S.S deserve it, and so may you one day.
Imagine a world with out it, poverty would be 45% higher then it is now.
If there was no SS in the future all the people that depend on it would having nothing to depend on!
It would endure trouble for the government, and the future society that runs on money, with out the government would not accomplish anything.
The government is not stupid, they make mistakes, but not major changing society mistakes.
One realy big mistake is taking SS away.
Its just not going to happen, if it does it will be given right back, when they see the big mistake in which they are causing.

It's a great scam that Bush and the nutcase Conservatives have going isn't it. when they take it away they then tell us to put money away . That would work out if we didn't get Soc Sec taken out. Then we could take the money Soc Sec would take from us and we could start an account.

But nutcase Conservatives want to screw us out of Soc Sec and make us pay for it at the same time, thus not allowing us to save.

This is living proof that Conservatives love the rich and hate the middle class and the poor. Nutcase Conservatives don't care because most are well off or don't even pay into Soc Sec.

Conservatives seem to think that hard working Americans can just put all this money away and save. They don't understand that most Americans live paycheck to paycheck, or have bill problems.

And Soc Sec is just fine. The founder and architect of Soc Sec looked at the numbers with his team of experts and guess what they found out? Soc Sec has never been better!! In fact medicare is what the real problem is not Soc Sec. He said Soc Sec is in better condition right now then in it's entire history.

I think we all know that it's a scam by Bush and nutcase conservatives who want to take out Soc Sec money to pay for the war in Iraq.

I BET BUSH AND HIS FAMILY GET THEIR SOC SEC!!

That is a scare tactic that the repuglicans has come up with. Social security will be here for you if we just fine tune it a bit. No major overhaul is needed. Will you pay for it. I hope so. It is many peoples safety net and maybe even yours if you run into any kind of health or other problems in your life. The repuglicans have not liked it since it was created as it made people equal, but it boils down to they just do not like to pull their fair share for the good of the country. They are under the mistaken idea that what is good for themselves is good for everybody.

if you paid into it, it would be there. it was going strong until bush dumped a billion a week in iraq. the republican propaganda has been trying to destroy social security because it's a great example of how it really works when people pool their assets to care for others.

as to paying now - there are widows, orphans, disabled people, and retirees depending very much on us paying now. why is it crap to be part of a society that cares for its members?

grow up and stop being manipulated by your very enemy.

Best question I've seen in a while! We need to force the Gov't to examine and fix this situation, as alot of people who pay into Social Security are going to be pissed when they find out they are not getting any of it back.

You are correct. It is crap. You have to remember that most of our elected officials are baby boomers. They'll all be retiring very soon. So they're more than happy to let us pay for their retirement.

I don't pay into it, but it does need to be fixed, and fast. Now they are talking about allowing illegal immigrants to collect social security. Why would we allow that? They haven't payed one dime into it. This is why social security will fail.

Because it will be around by then. With virtually no changes it will last until 2040, and with minor changes to the tax code it will remain solvent indefinitely. All we have to do is remove the income cap (and possibly slow the rate of benefit growth) and it'll do just fine....

It'll still be around if we don't let them take it away, and do the simple, obvious things that we could do to make it continue. (Revisit the caps that were set 30 years ago, for example.)

If they take it away, then, yes, we're screwed.

It's not, as some are saying, that conservatives simply want to screw us over (which they do), it's that they want their hands on the biggest pile of money there is.

I say, don't let them.

True. And that's the problem with the system.

Same reason San Diego has been teetering on the edge of Bankruptcy the past several years. Fiscal mis-management.
