It's not a matter of liking to look at them, but I feel compelled to watch when I pass by, like staring at the bright lights of an oncoming car.
The worst accident I saw was on southbound I-81 in Pennsylvania last month. I was headed north, luckily, and there were at least 15-20 cars scattered along the highway, a few of which were tractor-trailers completely destroyed. The highway was closed for several miles. It reminded me of the car crash scene in one of the Final Destination movies.

My Dad was killed in a head-on collision between his small car and a tractor trailer. Even before that happened, I always thought looking at accidents was one of the stupidest things a person could do.

I don't think anyone likes to look at them, but I think it is human nature to rubberneck. It is scary to drive by and see a bad accident.
