We will be visiting Boston for 4 days. We will be driving to MA but are going to stay at a hotel about 15 miles outside of the city. Is there a taxi system that we could use to take us in to the city or a place that we can stay that is close to cheap public transport?

We have not decided on a hotel any recommendations are welcome. We have found things in our price range ($70-100) are about 10-20 miles away.

There is a train, the T, which goes to several cities outside of Boston, and has some stations which provide parking. I would suggest perhaps staying in Cambridge, because several red line T stops have parking, such as Alewife, or Davis stops. Also in Cambridge you could stay at the Hampton Inn which is about a 2 minute or less walk across the street to the green line, and that will take you directly into the city in 10-15 minutes. Once you get directly into the city it would be difficult to park, so most of my friends/family that have come have stayed at that Hampton Inn, it's cheap but really nice and easily located.

There is a Best Western on the Fresh Pond Parkway that ranges in price from $100-$150 depending on the season with a free shuttle to Alewife and Harvard T Stations. Here's the Link: http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do?iata=&promoCode=&corpID=&propertyCode=22025#null

You can always park at one of the outer subway stations and park there for fairly cheap. I haven't stayed at any specific places outside Boston so I don't know of any particular ones to recommend, but if you're looking just for a comfortable place to sleep at the lowest cost then you can always drive to the nearest subway station and take that downtown (it's cheaper and easier than driving and parking downtown).

Subway maps and info. are at www.mbta.com
Easy ones to park at are: Alewife (Northern terminus for the Red Line), Riverside (Western terminus for the D branch of the Green Line), Wellington or Oak Grove (northern end of the Orange Line) or Quincy Center or Braintree (southern end of the Red Line). Depends on which direction you're staying at.

I hope this helps you. Commuter rail is train for out side the city and the subway to take you around the city on different lines. If you click on commuter rail it wioll give you listed of cities and take those cities and look for hotels.

Good luck
