I'm basically the same person. no matter who I'm with. I think it depends more on where I am, than who I'm with.

Yes, I don't act the same way around a group of strangers as I do with family or friends, it also depends on where I am to, for instance a court room is no place to be laughing and joking around.

I think WAY too many people are phonies and do act differently around different people.
Either because they feel they have to in order to have some sort of approval from society, friends, family, etc. Or because they're out to manipulate someone and therefore need to gain their trust so they act accordingly to deceive the person.

I, personally, believe in being true to myself. If someone likes me, they like me for who I am, not who I pretend to be. If someone doesn't like me, that's fine - I don't need anyone's approval of who I am. The only thing that matters is that I am happy with who I am, not being miserable trying to be what everyone else wants me to be.
The only time I would even slightly change around others is when I'm around folks I know do not like swearing. I'll either not use them at all or change 'em to something "kid friendly" out of respect for that person. "Oh, dang... "
Changing my words for a little while is one thing, but I do not and will not change my attitude or personality for anyone.

Often it is for most people. In a formal situations we behave formally, such as at a sit down dinner, where we dress up, eat with silverware and fold our napkins. However, at a ball park we dress casually, chug beer, belch and eat everthing with our hands!
At work I speak with perfect diction; however at home on the telephone I use less formal language and sometimes slang.
Not that I believe in the old adage, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do," persay. I always have my personal belief and morals to answer to within myself. However, within those perimeters my behavior adjusts to the situation I'm in as do most people's.

If you do this, then you are projecting an image of yourself which is not genuine. As far as I am concerned, what you see, is what you get, all the time.It doesn't pay to be a faker.
