On Feb 4, 2003, the UN voted for an end to the forty-one-year-old embargo against Cuba. Only three nations—the U.S., Israel, and the Marshall Islands—voted against the motion.

Again, on Nov 8, 2005 the UN voted on a resolution to end the embargo, with the margin of 182 for the resolution and 4 against (The U.S., Israel, Palau and the Marshall Islands).

The U.S. embargo against Cuba is an economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed on Cuba on February 7, 1962. As of 2006, the embargo is still in effect, making it one of the most enduring trade embargoes in modern history.

It is US's loss, the Cubans are doing much better without the Batista Government and the Mobsters running the Island. What few people understand is, that the general population has to be very P"ssed Off for an indigenous guerrilla revolution to succeed, but when they are, they are unstoppable. Look at the other popular revolutions in history, including the American, the Russian, the French, the Mexican, the list goes on. What the "US" lost was not just the Mob run Casinos and resorts but the Sugar fields of the American Sugar Corporation(Dole) and that was the theft of American property that was repeatedly referred to by the successive Governments who continued the embargo. Damn funny that there is a US Navy base in Cuba at Guantanamo Bay. It suggests a strange sort of co-operation, especially since to hold prisoners there Castro had to give permission.

How does an embargo against Cuba defend democracy??? The USA didn't get what they wanted from Cuba and it has been sour grapes from them ever since. Israel sucks up to the USA because of the huge support the USA gives to it, even with numerous examples of Israel breaking international law...how is that defending democracy???

It is the bully boys looking after each other. The two islands you mention are worth nothing to the US but votes.

Top defenders of Democracy? No, America just has a major inferiority complex when it comes to Castro, the man they just cant kill. Its not surprising that Israel, Palau and the Marshall's follow them, their all mainly Americanised colony-esque states anyway

Democracy ios about diplomacy..the world wanted to bring Cuba back into the world stage, to talk with it and to grow with it. Europe has, for many years, been openly talking to Cuba, as this is what grown up, civilised nations do

Embargos just attack the poor, and end up making America look like the bully boy it seems to be turning into
