It very well may be.

You need to read the terms of service on this site to make sure that I'm not entirely blowing smoke, but here's the breakdown.

In the US, copyright protection is bestowed upon a creative work's creation. Formal registration of a work is not required. Consequently, the writers of questions and answers have legal control of their words.

On top of that, Yahoo! may also have a right to the works, probably in the form of a nonexclusive perpetual license to display said works without any form of compensation.

So it may be illegal.

You'd need to ask a lawyer for a formal answer, though, but this is based on current copyright law.

As a stand-up comic, even if the answers here were under some sort of copyright law, you could use them for the purposes of comedy (specifially, parody or satire) without violating copyright. You could even make fun of Yahoo itself, assuming you didn't resort to libel.

Since I do not see anything wrong in using some of them unless they specify the source that may have copyrights maybe you can. But to be sure, if you can still remember who send those answers and/or questions, why don't you seek their permission first?

Intellectual property law is an interesting conundrum. Lets say you believe in God. Well if you believe that God created the universe and everything in it, then technically we should all be paying God royalties now shouldn't we. Because it is all God's idea no matter how you slice it. So you have a choice. Believe in God, take a chance that he will forgive you and use this in your next routine or Believe in God and send a usage fee to God@kingdom.com or don't believe in God and use this and you don't owe anyone anything or don't believe in God and don't use this and see how silence works on the audience.

You can quote me on that. Free of charge.
