First off, I have a 1994 Ford Ranger. It will start up and run great for about 20 minutes then, when it gets warm, the engine starts knocking and the truck sounds like a diesel but with no power what so ever. Could be a blown head gasket? My second problem. I have a 1993 GMC Jimmy. It will start up but when it is running, it rumbles and it has no power. Black smoke is coming out from the exhaust. Fuel filter? Answers?

The GMC is loading the carb with fuel (too rich) and the 94 Ranger sounds like rod and main bearings are worn out and need to be replaced (maybe from a bad oil pump). Black smoke from exhaust is an indication you are having problems with fuel systems and the car is not totally burning all the fuel going into the engine.Good luck !

You being a single mom with 2 toddlers won't exchange the respond. in case you tried to change an alternator without disconnecting the battery, you will desire to no longer be working on your truck. i'm no longer attempting to be insensitive or rude, yet you're fortunate you weren't heavily injured. it somewhat is impossible to wager what would have been broken, yet whilst the truck won't even turn over, the starter is in all probability on the record. locate a mechanic that provides unfastened restore estimates.

They are both American made...there's your problem right there! Especially the Ford; They are crappy! Sell them and use the money to buy a Toyota Tundra or Tacoma.
