It depends on the age difference and what type of person you are. All parents want the best for their children so if they find it hard to accept an older man in their daughters life it does not mean they are jerks, it means they love their daughter and are concerned for her.
My daughter is 20 and her partner is 34. She is tall, beautifull and clever. He is about 6" shorter than her full of tatoos, ugly as sin, looks about 50, has been in prison, I don't know what she sees in him. He is the type of person I have tried to keep my daughter away from all her life. However, my daughter says she is happy with him. So even though I don't approve I love my daughter more than I dislike him. I will always be there for my daughter, she is more important to me.
Your girlfriends parents may initially reject you, as I did with my daughters partner, you must act like a grown up and persevere and show your love for their daughter. When my daughter said her partner treated her like a princess, that was good enough for me and to see her so happy made me happy. I am still not happy that she chose the person she did and it has taken a long time for me to be in the same room as him. But I appreciate that he has really tried to show me that he genuinely cares for her. Be calm, be patient, because her parents love her as much as you do. Good luck!

It sounds to me like she is underage and you don't want to say that. If that is the way it is, grow up and cut her loose. If not, my aplogies. If she is over 18 and her parents do not like you, it is her decision whether you are more important than her family. Whatever they say at the moment, it is amazing how a grandchild can repair relationships.

You have left out one critical bit of info. How old are you and how old is she. If you are 60 and she is 25, Congratulations. If she is 12, then you should be shot.

if she is underage, it is not a matter of being a jerk. it is a matter of law. if she is over 18, she has a right to pick her man.
