This may sound strange but it isn't speaking to a crowd that bothers me.When I do that, I have written notes to help out. Speaking to people one on one is hard for me. I am shy one on one anyway. I get to a point where I am thinking,O.K. where do I take the conversation now. That is why I like yahoo answers. I can think about what I want to say. If I don't like it,I can just change it.

Very shy guy here, so it's hard to do anything in front of a crowd.

It's so hard for me to talk in front of even a small group of people, that I will refuse to do it. I used to sell Tupperware, and even though I had decent sales, I was forced to give it up because I refused to do parties. In school, I also voluntarily took an F on a book report because I refused to do it in front of the class. It's an uncomfortable, irrational fear that I have, and I see no change in it, despite people's often unwarranted advice...lol.

According to a recent study the number one fear of people is public speaking followed by dying. So more people would rather die than speak before a crowd. I get sick. I am in college and avoid it. I am so bad I would take a bad grade over it in Highschool.

The first few times, it was very hard. I was very nervous. My voice shook and I quivered and sweated a lot. After a few times it became much easier. It just takes practice. If I do feel nervous, I find something to focus on, usually a friendly face, that helps.

Quite easy.
I just sort of change into another
person when I'm in front of a crowd.
I don't need to picture everyone naked.
But I do anyway.
Unless it's a crowd of senior citizens.

i was very shy, until i had a job where I had to train others ~~ I had to learn how to speak publicly. It helped me alot. Also, you'd be surprised how many times the average person will say UM when they have lost their train-of-thought in a conversation. I had to grade people for that; and in the course of a five-minutes speech-giving exercise, the average person will say UM or AND-UM about 50+ times!! Serious, i had to write it down every time they said it!
