Interact. Play some board or card games, go on a walk, or to the park, watch a movie.....let them make some popcorn and they'll be excited about it....turn on the radio and dance and sing, be silly and laugh....kids that age LOVE that stuff. Color in books, or sidewalk chalk on the porch. Let them help you bake cookies. Feel free to email me if you want some more ideas. I have four kids and am a stay at home mom, so I'm sure I could be of more help. Good luck!

Have a drawer in the kitchen filled with art supplies for the children. Include paper, markers, hole punchers, rulers, tape, stencils, stamp pads, etc. Let the children use them only during this time of day. You might also put a few reference books on children's projects in that drawer to provide you with immediate ideas.
Fill the sink with soapy water and let your child wash pots, pans and utensils during dinner preparation. Add a few other items from the kitchen, such as a baster, measuring spoons and egg beater to keep things interesting.
Let the kids help with dinner preparation. Many 4-year-olds can set the table. Fives can peel vegetables and wash lettuce. Six-year-olds can make instant pudding or hamburger patties. Sevens can learn to chop vegetables (under your supervision) and make a simple salad. Eight-year-olds can follow simple recipes for cookies and other desserts with you nearby.
Create a noodle necklace. String different shape noodles on yarn.
Hope this helps?

I suppose it depends on your age and also the rules that the parents have set. When I was younger and I babysat I'd take them bike riding outside/on the trampoline/swimming if it was nice outside. If it's a rainy day you can play music/do crafts with them/toss in an appropriate movie/play board games/help them with homework. I think kids just want their babysitters to have fun with them. Just make sure they're in safe situations and have a good time.
Good luck.

Create curiosity in them and then help them fulfill it. Introduce a topic they are interested in...dinosaurs, mammals, ecology, Shakespeare (yes, Shakespeare) and then guide them in researching the topic. The reward at the end of the study can be a field trip to a museum or play that highlights what they have studied. It is delightful to watch a the "light bulb" turn on in a child's mind. And a love of learning will serve them well for their whole lives.
