Hello there, I need help deciding on how I can upgrade RAM? I currently have 512 mb, and I am wishing to add 1 gb more. I heard somewhere that when you buy additional RAM, you should have the same RAM speed as your old card, otherwise the computer runs only the original and not the new, Is this true?

My specs are:
Type :DDR-SDRAM PC3200 (200 MHz) - [DDR-400]
Size :512 MB (2 rows, 4 banks)

Memory Controller Information :
Memory Controller :SIMM, DIMM, SDRAM
Number of connectors :4
Max. Module Size :512 MB
Max. Memory Size :2048 MB
Supported Speed :70ns, 60ns
Supported Voltages :3.3v
Error Detection Method :64-bit ECC
Error Correction Capability :Unspecified
Current/Supported Interleave :1-way/1-way

Any tips and/or suggestions? Thank you!

Go to this site and use their tools -- they even have step-by-step guides to take you through the process. Since you don't specify the manufacturer or model of your CPU, I can't give you anything more specific.

The requirement of the same speed is somewhat not true anymore though some say it still is, that's a bit in the air. Your best bet would be to buy another 512 mb chip (or 3 if you want to fill it).

specific, improve to a minimum of 2Gb, the hot usual. pass to the dell internet site and to be sure what type you like. ought to be everywhere from $20-40. this could heavily develop your computers overall performance. computers are starting to be extra fee-effective, and you may get an outstanding twin middle processor for $500 and a minimum of 2Gb's of ram and an extremely roomy 200Gb not hardship-free stress. in case you desire to make that leap. you probable will not be able to enhance the photos card in that pc by using fact PCI show did not rather come on that many computers back then, so in case you improve your finished pc after which improve the photos card for a some distance stronger pc than the only you have superb suited now.

You should add the exact same ram as you are using. The ram will run at the lowest speed you have. If he higher speed ram you have runs, it will only run at the slower speed.

first you are going to need all the equipment to put in your pc. 2nd you are going to need some tools for this job. the tools you need are a hammer, a crowbar, a screwdriver flathead. The first thing you need to do is take the crowbar and rip off the metal part covering the tower. Once that is out of the way you need to take the hammer and break off the old ram card making sure you dont brake off the card in the slot. After that is done you will need to take the new ram card and put it in the slot then take the hammer and pound it back in hard but not too hard. to break it off then you take the screw driver and give the card one last tap to fully make sure everything is installed properly. After that take some duct tape and put the tower back together. Tape it up and you are set to go.
