Yes you can install a light kit on your fan. However, the wiring may not be in place to operate it from a wall switch. You may have to operate your light from the pull chain.
If the wiring is not in place to operate your light from a separate wall switch, you can buy a remote unit that will allow you to control your fan speed and light as well as dimming your light from a remote control.
If you attach the light kit to the bottom of the fan and it doesn't work, drop down the cover at the top and hook the blue wire from the fan to the black power source. Be sure to turn off the power first and verify that the power is off with a volt meter.

Not necessarily. You will need to take a look to see if you have an extra positive wire for the light. Turn off the power to the switch at the circuit breaker. Remove the light switch panel and see if you see another wire with a cap on it. If so, hopefully that will be a positive lead for a ceiling fan light.
You can also find ceiling fans that operate the light by remote control without the need for a second positive wire. I much prefer wall switches though. I had problems once with a ceiling fan with a remote control light switch that hummed really badly. I ended up replacing the fan. But this may be your only inexpensive option if they didn't install the extra wire already.

Fans with lights are made in such a way as to allow either the fan or the light to be controlled by two separate wall switches or one common wall switch. Typically there is a white(common wire) a black wire for the light and a blue wire for the fan. If you only have one wall switch the black and blue wires are connected together with the hot wire coming from the wall switch and the white wire goes to the neutral wire. If you already have any kind of fixture installed you will see the way to connect the wires from the fan/light unit by looking at the black and white wires from that fixture. Connect the black/blue wires to the wire from the ceiling that was connected to the black wire of your old fixture and the white to the other. Depending on the way the switch was wired you could have two white wires or one white and one black.

What you will have is the wiring to connect a new fan. If the new fan has a light that is attached to it, then that will get power, too. What you will not have, is separate wall switch controls. Your wall switch will control power to the ceiling box, and switches on the fan will control whether the fan, light, or both are on.

The bare twine is going to eco-friendly, that is the floor. The white is going to white, that is the impartial. The black is going to the black, that is the "warm" that runs the fan motor. The red is going to the black w/white stripe, that is the "warm" that controls the mild on the fan. you ought to have a separate activate the wall for the fan motor and delicate, it is why you've 3 wires (no longer counting the floor). you may verify this with the aid of wiring in a small mild fixture to the wires and be conscious what change controls what. Did the hot fan comprise training? It likely says that the black w/white strips is for the mild.

Its the electrical wires that are there, that you need. Does the old fan work? If so putting up one with a light will be no problem. Good luck, I put one up, my arms were killing me from holding it up while my boyfriend wired the electric. Oh yeah make sure to turn the power off. I pulled the wrong breaker. My poor boyfriend!

You might not have a seperate switch on the wall but there is a hot wire in the fan to power the light.

i don't know why some of these idiots think their electricians.... the answer to your question is yes and depending on the fan that is already installed you mite be able to pick up a lite kit for it !
when installing a new one have a S-hook handy or make one out of a clothes hanger to help hold the new fixture, this is a great help till you get all the wires hooked up, some even come with a hook to hold them.....safety first--- kill the power

in the top of the fan there is a blue wire that needs to be wired with the black wire. this may be done already. hook the light kit up or use a tester. if the light doen't work, remove the fan and wire the blue and black togather

Depending on the ceiling fan, you may be able to buy a kit to put a light in your existing fan.
