I really shouldn't be answering this question, because every year I say this is the year and it never is.
But I will keep my head up and say this is the year, because eventually I'll be right and I can laugh at all those people who never believe me.
Although I agree that we need to get some young blood in there, and have management that cares more for the game then profit margins.
Stanley lives here in the winter, it should be here all summer too. GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!

The way it is right now with the Leafs, no they won't. That team, when viewed as a corporation, is so profitable as it is right now, and the management so geared on profit above everything else, that it almost seems that in management's eyes, to have missed the playoffs but have had a record-setting year profitwise is better than to have had a good playoff run but not hit the profitability at the bottom line that was hit the year before. They make so much money off high-end people and companies renting boxes, television rights, Leafs TV, and just plain sellout after sellout at exorbitant ticket prices that until the demand for their product starts to become tied to success on the ice - in other words, if people just started not supporting them with their $$$ when they're losing - then the management of the team as a company would change and they'd start getting more big-time gamers as players, and gee! then they'd win and have a viable chance at the Cup. But until then, the way it's run now, probably not.
Blame these institutional investors in the stock of the Toronto Maple Leafs above everything else. The institutional investors don't care if they trade a proven veteran defenseman for a washed-out European prospect two organizations have tried and given up on already. The institutional investors don't care if they win or lose, just profitability ueber alles.

As much as it pains me, I think the Leafs are going to surprise a lot of people this year. I believe the combination of 5 years of ineptitude and general Leafs hatred have blinded many people to the fact that their management has an actual vision for the team and are slowly putting all the right pieces into place. They might squeak into the playoffs this year - and if they keep doing what they are doing, they'll be a serious contender again inside 3-4 seasons. Could they win the cup? Well, The Red Sox broke the curse of the Bambino and the Blackhawks ended an almost 50 year drought, so anything is possible

fugutastic----- its going on 40 years Leaf fans not 30. This is going to be the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS 40th anniversary this up coming season and they still have no chance. on winning the Stanley Cup.
The owners of the Leafs are in it just for the money, and they are making good money even when they never compete for the Cup, when you win the players want more money and that means less money in owners pockets, and the players get traded, and the Leafs have been like that since Ballard. Toronto will have a terrible year this year and they will not make the playoffs again.
GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!

Hockey is a business. No loyalty liek before. For the leafs they fill the arena whether they win or lose. Making the team competative keeps the fans coming to the games. That is all that is required for the leafs . Good diahart fans. so the answer is , did you ever here of the saying " When hell freezes over"

No! Why would they even make an effort to ?
It makes no difference what type of team they
put on the ice, The ACC is still going to be sold out.
Only when Leaf fans demand a winning team will
have a glimmer of hope to see Lord Stanley's Cup.

Well, considering it took the NYR 54 years and we are at almost 30 now...you still have a shot. Then again the Blues and Kings are also nearing the 30-year mark, too.
What can I say? Until the main goal is icing a Cup team rather than squeezing profits from Make Belief fans, I'd say don't hold your breath there, Wendy.

With the changes they have made in the past few months I believe they are on the right path to win the cup. I don't know if I see it coming this year though but soon, it's their time.

many teams went over 30 and 40 years before they won a cup. the fans need to keep being there for them whether they lose or win. it might take a few years and better management before they make the playoffs. the age factor always is a big factor in whether they can win enough to make the playoffs. detroit went 42 years without a cup before they won in 1996-97. new york rangers had went over fourty or fifty years before they won in 1994. other teams who have not won and never won in thirty to fourty plus years feel your pain. st louis has never won a stanley cup. they are a team who has been in the nhl for fourty years and never won a title. chicago hasn't won in almost thirty plus years. keep your faith and cheer for them regardless how they play. i think they will win in your lifetime.

Unfortunately yes it is likely that you won't see the leafs win in your lifetime, but in a few centuries years or so they are bound to win, at least.
