You could try Craigslist in your city. I just bought a used laptop for 75 that can run Ubuntu or Windows 2000. Also perhaps your city has a computer repair shop that sells refurbished laptops, 150 and up seems to be the going price in my area. Look on laundromat bulletin boards, and neighborhood newspapers.

To me >$100 means "more that $100" which I am not sure is what you meant.

All the Manufacturers are having back-to-school sales, but the best prices on new laptops are between $400 - $500. If you want to buy a laptop for about $100, you are going to have to look mighty hard.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 440 Pro, runs Win98, has a 120 MHZ Pentium I, 80 MB memory, 2GB disk, no network, no modem, interchangeable floppy/CDrom bay. I wouldn't sell that for $100, I use it for a demo machine.

There are palm computers that will give you word processing and basic stuff like that. There are even normal size keyboards for them. Those can be had cheaply.
