...SO RUDE at the grocery store? They pass in front of you while you're looking at items on the shelf, without even beginning to think about saying "excuse me". They bang into your buggy, and start putting items on the conveyer belt before you're finished. Did they leave their manners in the street, or what? This seems to be really bad only at the grocery store...I don't get it.

Seeing all that food reminds people of how hungry they are. Hungry people are crabby!

I can tell that you are nice, polite, kind & thinking of others first. Your genuine kind smile has taken the edge off of people that you have given it to & they were less likely to be rude to someone else. Your kindness has rubbed off on people. Your politeness has set an example. Give it time, pretty soon your influence will change people in your area's grocery stores.

Kindness is contagious, but so is rudeness. Be strong, keep the kindness going for as long as you can. Don’t get down on yourself if your temper gets short and you get rude back at them, you are human after all. But what makes you different is you know rudeness robs people of their joy.

Other people may think I mean the sappy sickly-sweet kindness that gets overwhelmingly disgusting by the time we're teenagers. No, I mean the genuine, happy to be alive, kindness.

Keep making the world a happier place, one smile at a time.

Unfortunately we are all turning into ruder, arrogant and impatient people. Our workloads and home commitments mean no longer have the time or room for pleasantries! Get in, get the job done then get out!!

I have myself been subjected to such behaviour and not just in the grocery store. I have learned to speak up politely though and inform them that they have been rude and to wait their turn like the rest of us. I make sure it is said loud enough so others hear and so far haven't yet been set upon lol.

It is good to see that you have manners though, be proud of them because they are dying out fast.

You're right. I think that people are crotchety. I guess that they don't like shopping. People seem to always be in a hurry these days. Life would be so much better if people would just relax and take their time. People seem to cram their days full and don't take time out to enjoy the things that are wonderful throughout the day. Then they get pi$$ed off at everyone else for not moving fast enough for them. It's sad really.

I know! Because I work in retail, I've been conditioned to smile and say "excuse me" when I pass by someone in a store, even when I'm not working. But people are so rude that by the end of my trip, I'm trying to tell myself not to say excuse me to them anymore because why should I be the only one to be polite? Where were people raised, in a barn?
By the way, you might find "Talk to the Hand" by Lynne Truss amusing...it's about the dearth of manners in today's society.

I'd say it's because they're in a rush. Shopping is a lot like Rush Hour. They don't want to be there, at the store, any more than they want to be on the roads. They just want to get their stuff, and get home.

Like Rush Hour, that tends to make people rude. Sorry...

When they say to "Ckeck your common sense at the door" People tend to think it means to leave it there, and not to make sure that you have some......
