who knows what the Best fish is to put in a 40 gallon. there are many options. cichlids are pretty cool looking fish, they come in all kinds of colors and designs too....like the african...he looks kinda like a girraff....they are agressive tho so i would recomend keeping them by themselves or with koi. koi are like goldfish...but get a LOT bigger, just remember, most fish grow to the size of their tank, look up some info on some fish, see how big they get, and then go from there...remember, not all fish get along, so choose ones that do, if you go to your local petstore, im sure if you ask an employee there, they could help you out with that, or research it online....goodluck and have fun!

Depends, do you want to set up a Marine aquarium or fresh water? Do you like small or large fish? Are you going to use live plants? Do you plan to decorate it? What type of filtration are you planning to use? Have you ever kept an aquarium before? Do you have a lot of time to devote to it? How much money do you plan to spend? Do you want a group of fish or one large specimen? I would buy a book or two and read up on it. There are several magazines you could subscribe to that would help also.

oscars or silver dollars. why dont u go to petsmart online and look or go the actual store..
