Am i wrong to tell my partner that i dont agree with him socialising with the local rugby team, even though he says he is only playing the game and isnt interested in the social life part of it. He told me that he wanted to get fit and thats the only reason he joined the team and then tonight he decided to go for a drink with the players and got drunk knowing he was supposed to be coming home to be after we had made arrangements with each for the evening!!!

It was his decision ,not mine not to socialise as he doesnt normally like pubs and socialising. He thinks that people that go out and get drunk are disrespectful and then he goes out and gets drunk himself!!!

HE HAS A RIGHT TO DO SOMETHINGS THAT ARE APART FROM YOU. HE MADE A MISTAKE BY GETTING DRUNK WHEN YOU TWO HAD PLANS. GIVE HIM HELL FOR THAT BUT LET HIM ENJOY THE GAME.

You may want to consider loosening your reigns on your bf in this relationship. It's important for you both to have your own things going on, and Rugby is a great sport to keep in shape, and meet some new friends.
I mean, if he's coming home late and drunk all the time then you have a problem. But let him out once in a while and he'll be happier...which makes you happier! Well, it should.
You're his partner, not his mother, and if you are constantly telling him what he can and can't do, he will do it anyway, start lieing to you, resent you, etc, it won't be a good relationship.

Good luck.

The rugby team has little to do with that. If you told him not to do that because of your fears, the team is just an excuse to do something he may have done otherwise anyway. Don't talk about the team. Talk to him about what you need. If he's not picking up what you're putting down, then you need to have a serious talk. If you are OK with that now (by not doing something radical), then, you basically tell him you're OK. You can tell him all you want, and things may not change. That's nagging. Say it clearly, and stick to your guns. If you give in, your life will not change much.

What is wrong with him being a part of the rugby team besides him getting drunk?

Some guys never outgrow the need to be with the boys. If he's showing signs of this, you'll have to decide whether or not you're willing to wait for him to outgrow this need. Personally, I do not think you're wrong at all. In my mind, you'd be right to move on and find a guy who finds being with you more fun than a night out with the guys. I wish you luck.

Yes, you are wrong to do that, unless you can prove that he's not just interested in playing the game, and or not just socializing with the other players.
