you should remove her and put her in a seperate 5-10 gallon as soon as she looks prego...she will get real big and fat ...as soon as she has them remove her and put her back in the orig. tank..leave the babies untill big enough to not be swallowed...if you can not afford a filter on the babies tank you will need to change 25% or so of the water (to keep from getting poor quality water)weekly. you will need an air line for the babies tank...oohhh and when moving any fish you need ti bag them and float them for 15 min or so..so not shock them...good luck..it is fun to see them grow and if you get real lucky you may see her give birth....real cool..just look and check her as much as possible

With guppies they get squarish shaped down there right before they give birth.
I wouldn't doubt that platy probably does the same.
Guppies are kinda see thought and get dark in the gravid area, I've never had a girl molly, so I'm not sure how much help I am.

if you have a somewhat large tank with very few other fish, just leave her there and you will have quite a few little babies soon and most will be just fine - more survive in a tank than ever do in the wild

You should separate her as soon as you have reason to believe she's pregnant. There's really no way to know for sure when she'll "pop."
