Why don't you try a salmon boat in Alaska first? I have had friend show up at the piers in Homer and go out for about 9 days for salmon.

An inexpensive way to get here is by the ferry. You can walk on as a passenger, bring a sleeping back and some food, and you can live on the back of the boat. (I promise it is the best way to travel to AK) The ferry has nice showers, food etc. Check out

good luck

The only way you'll get on a commercial crab boat is if you are a crab. And if it has to be an Alaskan boat, you'll have to get to Alaska.

Any commercial fishing boat is a carefully organized group of people who know what they are going to do and what each other is going to do. Unless you learn what you need by hard work in commercial fishing, working your way up, you don't stand a chance. Have another beer and dream of easy money.

Did you watch the show on the Discovery Channel? That job kills people every year. Yeah the money is good, but the danger is high, very high. But if you really want to, go to the Alaska state goverment site and go from there, they are normally looking. But maybe not because of the new rules that have lessened the amout of boats that can go hunt crab.

your chances are very slim. but you need to move there long before the season start, and ask around. you can't do better than that, and you might not get a vacancy at all.
