a close friend of mine found out her father is cheating on her mother via a pic on his old phone. I would like to help, but when i heard about it, i was overwhelmed. Anyone have ways to help cope with this?

I think your friend should tell her mother what she found. It is not her job to keep this sort of secret. If she tries to keep it, it will eat at her and she will always feel "in the middle".
You can help by being close by so she can talk to you whenever she wants. Also, call her frequently to "check in". Make her your "priority friend" for as long as she needs that. Let her sleep over at your house as often as she likes.

Your friend has a right to say something, after all it involves her parents. She might want to talk to her dad first and let him know that she knows and give him a chance to come clean by himself. However, if he refuses and this is still bothering her, she may have to make the decision to talk to her mother about her father's indiscretion. Regardless, I think the first thing to do would be for her to talk to her dad before she does anything else.
