With this money, I will be looking for a studio type apartment in Phoenix while I look for a job. I am an american citizen but I've been living overseas all my life so therefore I don't have a credit score. Will I be able to find a minimum wage job as soon as I get there? I need all the information that I can get before I make this move in October. Thanks in advance!!

That should be enough if you are looking to rent a studio apartment. When I moved here two years ago I had a lot less and was able to find work within three weeks through a temp. agency (not always the best work, but as it states, it is temporary and it pays the bills). As for not having a credit score, apartments will probably require you to have a guarantor or unfortunately turn you away. You can usually rent a condo from an individual (this will most likely cost more as the deposits are higher). Try checking the on-line newspaper classifieds for apartments/condos/rooms for rent. I also recommend looking up some different apartments prior to your move and emailing them to see what they require from renters. I hope this somewhat helps you. I was nervous when I moved too not knowing if I saved enough and where to find work, but eventually things fell into place. I hope the same will happen for you!

I think that is definitley enough...you shouldn't have a problem getting a job either. Go to the chamber of commerce website of what city you plan to live in you will find all the info you need there!! Also you may want to look at forrent.com and find an apartment and call to see what there policy is because you don't have credit. Some places may ask for someone to co-sign for you.

4k? No problem. You just need to consider what part of town you want to live in first. The job market is NUTS here right now, so getting employed should be no problem. I'd get a room for rent instead of an apartment just to get started out, from there assess what your budgeting needs are and what it's going to cost you to find a more permanent abode...

Set your sites lower (literally) Tucson is a lot cheaper and not that far from Phoenix...it's also a nice place to live. Got a studio apartment in 2002 for about $350.00 a month, gated, and in a good location.

You will be able to find a job just fine, but you will run into problems renting an apartment without paying a much higher deposit. I am from Arizona and miss it greatly. I hope you enjoy it and good Luck

Monster , Yahoo Hotjobs, Careerbuilder are some of the largest job boards, where you can apply for jobs and upload your resume. Since Craigslist, allows free job postings, many smaller companies post their vacancies on this online classifieds website. You can also search for jobs from multiple websites using aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. Referrals are also becoming a increasingly popular way to get hired.

$4000 may last about a month, by the time you pay first and last months rent including security deposit.

Phoenix is just like any other large city,....if you want to live in the "nice parts" it is going to cost a lot of money.

I lived in Phoenix for 11 years and moved back to Michigan due to rising cost of living.

You might want to rent a room somewhere first before you try to rent an apartment. You need work to qualify for most apartments. I think you can do it though. Good luck!
