I didn't. I did not carry a purse until college because there is just way too much stuff to be lugging around all day.

Yeah, they carry them, but by no means buy her something expensive-like coach or fendi. Eighth graders won't take care of expensive purses like that... Take her someplace that she already likes to shop and buy her a couple of cute purses. You should also assess whether or not she really needs an actual purse, if she just wants one to have it and has nothing to put in it but pencils and such, then buy her a messenger bag. They're cute, and work as both a back pack and a purse. Fuctional and trendy.

From what I have seen, they carry those small purses that look like backpacks or those big denim purses that zip across or they carry those purses that are across between a purse and a totebag. Tell her not to sweat it. If people don't like her for the kind of purse she carries, then they have issues.

Then what do I know? LOL! I was only there 20 years ago. (;0D)

i am a feshman(9th grade) and yes they do!!! You have to have a purse in 8th grade...it's just a fashion statement and for some it's very usefull. It really helps hold your pencils and supplys and ect.
I would suggest a vera bradley purse/bag. Some are kindof expensive but they are very in. Also Coach is cute. And if your looking for something less expensive check Target(NOT WALMART)
I hope i helped and let me know if you have any other ?'s

In some schools, they are not allowed to, but many girls that age like to carry purses. My two-year-old daughter loves to carry a purse, although with not much in it. It must be due to lack of Y chromosomes. :)

May God bless and keep you.

Certainly not. They just carry backpacks. I did when I was in eighth grade and that was 7 years ago. Children are too materialistic now a days. When I was in eighth grade back in 1999, my family did not have enough money for that kind of stuff. I was thankful for what I had, which was not much. I was also a Hanson fan geek. I had the layered hair, the metal everywhere, and the ripped up clothes. We had to wear uniforms at my pubilc school, so I wore chains on everything I had. It evolved in high school. I was into comic books more and so I wore geek clothes everywhere.

Go buy a couple of her favorite magazines and see what types of purses are advertised. Have her pick one that fits in your budget. This should ensure that she gets the "right" purse and you don't have to break the bank while buying it.

i'm the only girl in my high school who still uses a back pack as opposed to a tote, and i find it so much more organized.

tell your daughter to get over herself and stop being so materialistic. she should use a purse she already has. if she is like me, she has about a dozen purses that she never uses. why add another to the pile?

School can be very stressful , and students feel
they need to dress "cool " or in the latest fashion,
no matter what purse she chooses it will be out of
style before the school year is out,,

Some do and some don't. Don't go buying her a Dooney & Bourke or anything crazy like that unless she will take care of it and use it all year long. She can one or two non name brand purses that will go with all her clothes.
