yes i need a fast cpu, not for gaming though

it would help alot if you could give us some of the things you want on it (like small[and portable] vs big[and beefy]) or if you want to game on it, or similar things.

They have refurbished laptops with warranties as long as the brand new ones. They also have them at much cheaper prices. You can find exactly what you are looking for, and still have money left over for other school supplies.

Check out the ACER. It is a good laptop and you can get more for your money...they aren't advertized as much and you are not paying several hundred dollars for the name.
My wife just bought the Acer Aspire 9400 for $900 CDollars. Has lots of everything...

You need to decide what it is that you want to do with your laptop. Do you want to game? Watch movies? Student activities? Business applications? Etc. Then go from there.
