My second was constipated for a while and my doctor told me to add just a little bit (about an ounce) more water to her formula once a day and maybe twice if she was very constipated. It helped almost immediately. The iron in breast milk is made by our body and is able to be digested very easily by our babies..because formula is of course not they add extra (a lot more) iron. This of course does not help if your baby is lucky enough to have a system that absorbs iron easily. Just add say 3 1/2 scoops instead of your normal 4 to an 8 oz bottle and poof within a couple hours he should smell worse. :0)
Don't use baking soda or any other kinds of laxatives (without doctors orders) because they can cause problems with their digestion.

The baby food veggies you give him probably are sufficient. If the problem is with the other end (he's not producing enough), our doctor recommended putting a tablespoon of Karo syrup in 4 oz. of water in the bottle. Prunes also do the trick quite well!
If the problem continues, be sure and talk to the doctor. There may be a medical reason.

At six months the baby should be eating fruit and vegs by now, that has plenty of fiber. If the baby is constipated or something from rice , give more water and fruit and vegs. that should do it.

Why does he need fiber?
A child this age should NOT be having formed BM's.
If he is breastfed, it's NORMAL for him to skip days and not have a BM every day at this age. He is very efficient at using up his food and may not have a lot of waste.
Talk to your doctor.......odds are good that there is no reason for you to add anything to his diet.

Ask your baby's doctor about Miralax to give him more fiber. You can mix the powder with almost anything. We have had good results with this.

Why do you think he needs more fiber? If you are using a balanced baby formula, he should be getting all he needs. If he is having problems with bowel movements, etc. please call your pediatrician as soon as you can.

I used to boil oatmeal with water and add few spoons of that liquid part to my daughter's formula, it gave her the oatmeal nutriens and while feeding her this for dinner made her tummy nice and full and she slept sooo great whole night.
