Neither will protect you 100% from STD's or Pregnancy. It depends most on what you're wanting to avoid. HIV cells can pass through the pores of a condom but it's better than nothing IF you're more worried about STD's. My girlfriends always prefered ribbed condoms and get one that's tight and form fitting don't use the lambskin because STD's pass through them like an illegal at the border.
This is a more a personal choice issue. Some women like the pill because it allows for spotaneous sex and they enjoy the natural feel of skin on skin. If you're in a relationship talk to your girlfriend about it. If you're single then carry a condom with you at all times maybe two and be prepared to use it because then you do need to worry about STD's and having one is better than not. If the girl doesn't want you to use then she'll let you know but you should want to anyway.
If you are committed then ask your partner to get tested and you should too because it only takes one encounter to get an STD. I'm lucky i've had sex with enough people where i lost count and never got an STD...or so i think..it can take years for HIV to show up.
So wrap it unless you both have rings on your fingers.

Both. The condom is more important, in my mind, to halt the spead of any possible STDs that either participant may have. It also doubles up on the birth control as most women don't take it 100% correctly.
Edited: I'd like to add that both the pill and the comdom are equally effective in preventing conception (around 99%) - do a little research before you make assertions like that.

What would that exactly relate to? I would count on a condom against STDs and HIV, and on the pill to prevent pregnancy. What's the question for exactly? Maybe a combination of both. Nowadays, I'd probably go for both if it is not a long-term relationship. Make sure the condom is used properly!

As far as birth control goes, women usually take the pill anyway to regualte hormones as well as prevent pregnancy ,but people have still been know to become pregnant while taking the pill or other forms of hormone altering birth control methods. You should probably try to do both just in case because there are no garauntees in either form. Aside from the issue of pregnancy you should use protection anyway.

I would say condoms. Condoms prevent many diseases that the pill will not and there are no systemic side effects or increased chances of cancer, like with the pill. Besides, who wants to worry about contraception every day of their life?

Both-- the condom for std protection, and the pill as back-up for birth control.

both cause even if a woman just uses the pill she can still get pregnant and the condom alone could have a hole or tear in it so using both is safer than one or the other

Well the pill is more comfy for everyone - 'cause no one likes a condom...
But if you are not in a monogamious relationship with someone who you know is disease free, not cheeting on you, and with whom you want to have children with - the condom can't be beat.
As uncomfortable as it is.
Just remember to get lubed ones... and feel free to use extra lube.

the woman taking pill. man using a condom sucks, doesn't feel as good, and it breaks the momentum when he has to put condom on.
