Ok I'm sorry but am I the only REAL person on here that realizes that being a good parent means using common sense?? I mean come on with all these people answering questions...ABSOLUTELY NO SOLID FOOD....NO WALKERS....Now come on people. I'm a daycare provider AND a mother of 2. Kids have accidents and sorry but there's no such thing as a DEFINITE answer. You have to use your best judgment and common sense with a bit of mothers (fathers) intuition thrown in. Not every situation is the same and no 2 people are the same. If someone's child pukes constantly and rice cereal keeps it down then PUUUULEASE tell me why that's bad? And if you live in a basement or one story house and use COMMON SENSE then WHY is a walker a bad thing? I mean come on I had my daughters winter coat recalled because it had ONE yes ONE sewed on button the "could" come loose...that sucker was sewn on better than most of MY buttons. Can all the ignorant stupid parent PLEASE just pay attention to your kids!!!!

amen!! I couldn't agree more. I hate all these people with their absolutes. ONLY breastfeeding is good for your child?? I don't think so. I have two boys who were raised on formula and they have yet to grow a third arm or become stupid. In fact, they are both too damn smart for their own good.

Walkers are fine if there are no stairs. I was afraid my boys would pinch their fingers when they rammed into furniture so I opted for the one that is stationary.

I agree with you on that cereal remark...do what you have to do to settle their poor tummies.

I think common sense would go a long way with many moms who are trying to do the best they can. All these books are GUIDELINES, not bibles that cannot be strayed from. All kids and situations are different. I was more regimented with my first, but when my second came, I was much more relaxed. My son won't die if he doesn't get his 6 ounces of orange juice on a particular day. My son's teeth won't rot out because I gave him a piece of cake after dinner.

I never read a parenting book or asked crazy questions...all of it is common sense and most of these people today who come on here asking questions...I have the slightest clue as to why they do not know how to care for a baby. No one taught me...I watched and learned when I was younger when other people had their babies over. I watched some friends kids before I had my own.

AGREED!!!!!! I can't believe some of the questions on here!! This isn't a medical advice board, if you have any questions whatsoever about the health or safety of your child(ren), why wouldn't you immediatly call your pediatrician? Geez!!
And the questions about if they are in labor or pregnant...uh, again, call your doctor!!!
Some of the questions are just plain annoying and I wish they could do something to remove these people permanently, but oh well.
Again, WELL SAID!!!!!

I hear you! The fact is that pediatricians made up these "guidelines" to be used as just that - GUIDELINES...not hard and fast rules...your child will not die if you feed them solids before six months (oh heaven forbid!) or if they dont take two naps at 9am and 1pm!!...people get SO weird when they focus more on the "rules" than listening to their child...every child is different...it's important for parents to seek advice, but to listen to their intuition and use their best judgment!

I'll drink to that...I had my first kid at 19 and didn't run to everyone else for answers nor did I pawn my kid off on anyone either. I think it is just ridiculous how young parents now act like complete idiots...I had no manual on what to do...I just did what I felt was the right thing. The kids now are going to grow up to be completely lacking in social skills because their parents won't let them learn for themselves and they are kept sheltered

It's like I was saying about fundies, instead of examining the advisability of their own actions, people prefer to pin the blame for problems on others. The reality check will come when infants get older and turf wars erupt between these parents and their overprotected children who think that they have zero freedom to think for themselves.

I don't get it either, it's too bad that you can't buy common sense because a lot of people need it.
