What gives animals and trees more value than a living, developing, human being?

Because we're mature enough to tolerate and accept things that we may not agree with personally for the good of society as a whole.

Because we believe that when a woman is raped or having a baby from an incestuous relationship, that she may not want to carry that baby in her body for nine months, and if there is a very real chance that the baby is going to be born unhealthy or dead anyway and the pregnancy itself may cause the mother's own death, then it may be the right thing to do, the only humane thing to do. And pieces of paper sentencing that mother to prison or forcing her to have that dead or dying baby are the last things she needs right now. She is suffering more than enough, Lord God knows, she is suffering more than enough.

Also because it is a matter of personal choice and women are going to do it whether the government is involved in okaying it or not, so it's better for them to have clinics to go to rather than having them go to sadists wielding rusty coat-hangers in back alleys the way they did the last time conservatives had their way.

Because we're intelligent enough to know that you cannot legislate morality. Just because it's written on a piece of paper doesn't mean that it's gone forever and now we all live in Never-Never Land and all of those poor women and their babies are Saved now, so we can go back to the business of always having at least one or two unpopular Wars because that is the right thing to do and the patriotic thing to do and Jesus wants us to.

Just because you have something called "human compassion" doesn't mean you support something. It just means that you have something called a "heart" and something called a "brain," and the two should mean more than a meaningless piece of paper forced on you by your government. A government that conservatives always say is too big and always infringing upon the rights of people.

I guess conservatives only truly mean that when it comes to keeping their assault rifles and machine guns. When it comes to people, who really cares if they have any rights or freedoms?

I don't know that anyone believes that trees have more value than a living human being.

It's a lot more complicated than that. First, I can't say that I believe that a zygot is a human being. Sorry, that's just not a person. You can't even see it without a microscope. Now a baby is a person. At what point does that transition occur? It's pretty hard to say.

I don't believe in "saving" animals OR babies. I believe in minimizing suffering. I think it's OK to eat animals as long as they are raised in humane conditions and killed in a humane manner. I also believe it's OK to get an abortion IF it's in the early stages of pregnancy AND it's for a good reason - for example if the woman was raped. She has already suffered so much from the rape; why make her suffer through giving birth to the child of such a man? And I believe that an unwanted baby will suffer as well. I know, because I WAS an unwanted baby. I wouldn't have minded if my mom had decided to abort me.

That's a good question. I think many liberals are thinking of abortion for use in extreme cases of rape or incest not as a form of birth control. Every child deserves to be born into a family who wants them. Some anti abortion people say adoption is the answer. But although an adopted child may realize they're lucky to be alive they live with the fact their mom, the one who should love more than anything in the world, didn't want them. How many of us can deal with that? So in a whacked out way these liberals you're referring to are protecting the unborn child. I'm not going to say yea or nae on this topic but if a young girl were raped and became pregnant I think she'd appreciate at least having the option. Pro choice people aren't always pro abortion they just don't want the choice taken away from someone who may need it. Think on that and pray you're never in a situation to have to make that choice

It's about a woman's right to choose (within the first three months) what she wants to do with her body. I only agree with it in certain situations.

Not all liberals believe in saving animals. I should know. I'm an animal rights activist and vegetarian. I have some liberal friends that think I'm completely insane.

Because merely making abortion illegal won't stop it, and causes other problems such as women causing miscarriages that might kill them.

The cause of abortion isn't that it is legal, the cause is that children are less valuable to people than stability and money. You want to get rid of abortion, then find a way to change that. However as long as most of you anti-abortion people are also anti-entitlement as republicans are, this isn't a solvable problem.

I'm not liberal and that's a good question but why do non-liberals not give a toss about humans already born such as our men & women in Iraq & Afghanastan who are sitting ducks there for no good reason??

Not all liberals have the exact same beliefs. The day that you understand that is the day you'll be on your way to intelligence. Don't get too smart though, you'll end up thinking like a liberal.
