CPS in most states and communities is trying to do the best job that they can. In truth, only about 10% of reports they get are actually children in dangerous situations, but they must treat each incident as if that child is in danger.
As a mother who was tortured by a malicious call to CPS while I was 7 months pregnant with another child, I can empathize with your feelings - but the person who damaged me was not CPS but the caller who used this group to undermine me and my family. While CPS was rigidly beauracratic through the investigation, I found it was very helpful to get my lawyer and local government officials involved to protect me and my family and we were cleared of any wrong doing in the end, as most families are.
Peace!

Yes,I have heard so many horror stories about C.P.S. and how good these people do their work also.So you have to make your judgment case by case and I warn everyone that it is 2 sides of story. As a parent of many children I have seen many people have children but they did not want to take care of them then they lost their kids to C.P.S. I urge everyone watch your children carefully because,There are 2,0000,000 web sites that deal with pornography and 500,000 child molesters that registered in U.S. Watch out C.P.S. is only small group of people who get pay so little and try to work against the porn industry and others.

They are under staffed and under funded, making it impossible to take care of the case loads they are given. In Indiana,a small boy was taken from an abusive parent and placed in a foster home of a distant relative ,where he was beaten, sexually abused and starved to death .In another case a child was left with his parent and was murdered and mutilated 4 days later. There are countless horror stories on both sides. If people took care of their own children properly there would be no need for CPS,but they don't theses kids need someone to look out for them,to speak for them ,to protect them, the parents arent doing it.What do you suggest? Do you have a better workable plan to protect the innocent abused children? No CPS isn't perfect not by a long shot, but can you come up with a fail safe for theses children. It may not be the best solution to the abuse problem, but its certainly better than doing nothing but talking about it.

Oh there are plenty of horror stories out there. The worst story, however, is that of the parents who didn't bother to take care of their kids, pregnant women who did drugs that damaged their children, and maniacs who don't care how precious young life is. There are the occassional cases in which people were unable to take care of their children (fatal illness and no relatives and the like).
CPS is supposed to be a stop-gap measure but societal problems and selfish adults have made it a way of life for some families.

If you want to do research on Child Protective Services human rights atrocities committed under pretense and color of law, please review the LIFE (Liberty Independence & Family Equality) website. The link can be found below in "Source". The LIFE website provides links to many advocacy sites and legal information on how to protect your family, using your Constitutional rights. The LIFE website does not render legal advice, just opinion.

Very true! An organization with no accountability and complete freedom to intrude in others lives. They have certainly protected the helpless, but much damage has been done by zealous workers!

The biggest problem, in my view, is the lack of funding. Without enough resources and personnel to cover all the children, they can't effectively stop children from being abused.

When budgets for this area was at it's highest there were numerous news stories of it's failings, so not hard to figure out how bad it is today.

I would rather see the err on the side of protecting children rather than leaving them to be tortured and mistreated.
