Tampons are the ideal solution for active girls who play sports and especially swim, and even for other girls they are MUCH more comfortable than pads, they are cleaner than pads, and much more environmentally friendly than pads.
Tampons do not hurt, and they are not at all uncomfortable, though sometimes girls are a little bit uncomfortable with the idea of inserting them at first.
One way to get past your fear of using a tampon, is to become better acquainted with yourself. Some time when you are not on your period, but before your next period, and when you have some time to be alone, take a few minutes to explore and see what the whole area is about. This is something that is essential for any girl.
Get comfortable, use a hand mirror, and with your other hand spread yourself open and look around. It is not dirty, or ugly, or wrong in any way, it is your body, you should know what it is about and how it works. When you are comfortable, slip a finger inside a few inches.
Next time you have a period, you will be ready to give a tampon a try, and will have a good idea what sort of experience to expect. It is different, but it is not bad. Honestly a tampon is WAY better than a pad ever was. Don’t feel bad if you don’t get it quite right the first few times you try it – it can take a bit of practice. Just keep trying until you get it right. When it is right you won’t be able to feel it at all.
Using a tampon with an applicator is easier at first, but I think the OB without the applicator is easier, more comfy to put in, and much better for the environment. You will have to pick for yourself.
Which ever one you get, follow the instructions on the box, and do not leave it in for longer than the instructions say is safe.

You just have to go up to her and tell her you feel you would rather have tampons b/c they would be more comfortable. When your about to start or when you run out of pads just go up to her and say "mom I am out of pads could u buy me some tampons?" Something like that. There aren't much choices here you have to just ask her straight out. Good luck!

Just tell her you want to try tampons. A good first one to try is Playtex SlimFits. And try them during your cycle, not before - that way you will already be 'moist' when you put one in.
It's very easy really, once you do it the first time. You can always go with your mom to shop for them together. Remember, your mother was once your age as well, and went through, I'm sure, the same thing with her mother.
If you don't feel comfortable with it, ask her for some allowance money and go to Walmart or something and look for it yourself. Or go with a girlfriend.

The next time you are low on pads and she is going to go shopping , just tell her you would prefer tampons. Or if you've never had them before, ask her to buy them and say you just want to see which you would like best bads or tampons.

Just be straightforward and honest with her, but if you have a hard time talking to her face, next time theres a grocery list write 'tampons'. If she asks, just tell her that you'd rather have tampons than pads. Also since its summer, tell her you need tampons because you're going swimming.

Try and explain to her that pads are uncomfortable. Maybe you could say that the pads don't work that well and you're afraid of leaks that might ruin your clothes and you dont want her to have to spend money on new clothes. If all else fails save up your allowance and buy them yourself. Or get a part time job so you have your own money.

Just open up to her. It may be kind of awkward, but the next time she hands you pads or anytime, really, just be like, "Mom, in the future, could you please buy me tampons instead?" You'd be surprised how well she'll listen to you, because believe it or not, the reason she probably hasn't asked you is becuase she's embarrassed to talk about it too. It's important to establish communication, though, especially at these tough teenage years. Good luck!

Well, just say what I said " I am truly not comfortable wearing pads and I would rather use tampons." Simple. Honest. and Staight to the point. If she respects you and your opinion then she will either talk to you about it or just trust your instincts and help you out. Remember it is your body, you should feel comfortable in it.(and with it:-)

i understand. your probably young and you probably cant drive yet so you probably cant go out and buy them yourself. So this is what i uesd to do when i needed tampons, i hope it works for you. i used to look in the newspapers for coupons for like tampons and stuff and when my mom was going shopping i would put them by her list so she would know. or you could write them on your moms shopping list so that you wont have to tell her, and she will get the idea. i hope this helps.

My mum was the same, I just asked her if I could buy my own, and she was happy to not have to talk about it, and I just bought my own tampons, My sister still uses pads and she is closer to my mum.
