I always get ingrown hairs when I shave my legs. Sometimes some turn into little zits. I've tried everything; soaking in Epson salt, using a body scrub, changing shaving cream... And I cant afford laser or waxing. Help! What razor should l use? What should I do?

Hmmmm...make sure the razor you are using is really sharp. Blunt blades can give ingrown hairs. Continue with the loofa-ing after shaving. If this doesn't help I cant really suggest anything else. Good luck.

Use an antibacterial bar. To help clear up the inflammation, wash the ingrown hair area twice a day with a Panoxyl bar, an antibacterial soap of 10 percent benzoyl peroxide found at your local drugstore.

Dab on some cortisone cream. Apply an over-the-counter hydrocortisone preparation such as Cortaid around the ingrown hair according to package directions. It will soothe any inflammation and speed healing.

Change your blade. If ingrown hairs are inflamed and infected, change your razor blade each time you shave until the ingrown hair is gone. Otherwise, you can reinfect yourself.

As for preventing future problems, as with many skin problems, preventing an ingrown hair is fairly simple. Here's what I suggest. :)

Shave, don't wax. If you're prone to ingrown hairs, remove unwanted hair by shaving rather than waxing.

Waxing is traumatic. It rips out your hair at an angle. When the hair grows back, it grows back at the same angle instead of growing straight up, piercing the side of the hair follicle instead of reaching the opening on the surface of your skin.

Moisten hair. Try to protect your hair follicles by keeping a barrier of moisture between you and the blade. You can use the expensive foams and gels if you like, but a mild soap like Cetaphil will also do the job. :))

Sometimes you can press too hard as you shave. this can cause you to nick the skin around the hair and as it grows the skin will heal before hair grows so you get an ingrown hair. beacuse the hair gets trapped underneath.
Also, if your razor has alot of blades(like 3 or 4) that too can scrape the skin and cause ingrown hairs. You can try to use nair but don't use it too soon after you shave it can burn. I have used nair or only 2 blade razors these help. more blades don't always mean a better shave. shave right before you get out of the shower, this gives the hair time to soften while you shower
Good Luck!
