well it sounds like you are asking if there is some particular parsciption drug that you want to take. But the truth is, putting on weight is easy, and I'm not just gonna say EAT! lol. You should work out! and diet better (hee hee) Muscle weighs more than fat, so
do the math. I would also need to know the reason for your underwieght state. Is it because you have health problems or do you have a disorder? because those things are two totally different things, and should be taken care of accordingly.

First: go see your family doctor and see why you are underweight and then do what the doctor recommends as far as diet and exercise. Stay away from all these fad diets to add pounds fast. You may naturally thin like my husband was during his years in the Marines or you could have a serious health problem and don't know it. This is the safest thing that I know to do. I have been working on my BSN in nursing to become a RN.

The easiest thing to do is to up the number of calories that you eat. I don't mean go from eating 1000 calories a day to 3000 calories a day. I think that you should start off small and then every week just add about 10 to 20 more calories until you get to your desired weight. See, you can still eat the stuff that you usually eat just eat a little bit more of it.

Combination of workout and right nutrition. Workoust should mostly consist of strength exercises to build muscle mass, such as lifting weights. At the same time implement right nutrition to help building your muscles. If you can financially, hire a personal trainer and dietitian. If not, at least go to a bookstore and read books on excersize and nutrition. You can also try to bargain w/a qualified personal trainer if you have some special skills such as marketing, hair styling, business or accounting. Good luck!

As strange as it sounds, exercise!! Muscle is much more dense than fat, and therefore heavier, and so working out is a healthy and safe way to gain a little bit of weight.

basically, eat more complex carbohydrates while still eating a healthily. Increasing your caloric intake and working out, esp. weight training will give you the appearance of a lean, toned body.

don't just eat a bunch of fat, cuz, believe me, that won't work and you might end up with a greater risk of heart attack or stroke instead of gaining any weight. you want to gain muscle, anyway, not just a bunch of fat.

Do get your complex carb not from flour but from whole grain like these:
*buckwheat
*amaranth
*quinoa
*brown rice
*oats -preferably whole

Add organic olive oil (spectrum is inexpensive) and seasonings.

also add safflower oil... good for weight gain or alternative is avacados... good on sandwiches.

After you stabalize your weight, start taking omega 3 rich foods like fish and flax oil (2 tablespoons 1 in AM and 1 in early afternoon).
