Does he really think that vetoing that bill has moved the country forward in science at all. How could someone be evil enough to not want to find a cure to cancer and other diseases.

The fact of the matter is that you are asking this about a man that has a lack of critical thought.
He doesn't give a crap what Embryonic Stem Cell Research could do. All he knows is that as long as he voices his opposition against this, he can keep the ignorant Fundamentalists quiet and in line with his policies.
It's all about power, not progress. He doesn't care for the good of the nation, because if he did; then he would never support something like the "Marriage Protection Amendment", nor would he ignorantly support any other measure or engage in any other debate that only divides the American people by their religious differences.
This is all about Napoleonic "divide and conquer" politics. He's a Fascist Dictator that shows his true nature every time he refuses to support anything that would help America prosper. He's no proud American, and he's certainly no true Christian.
As Christ once said: "You should know a tree by it's fruits...a good tree can NOT bare bad fruits" (or vice versa). Wouldn't you say that his empty rhetoric doesn't match his evident evil actions?

Because he is brown nosing the Christian right, left and middle. When he had that well planned production about his veto, he surrounded him self with good looking couples, babies in their arms,whose kids were born with in vetro fertilization. Babies started in a petri dish and implanted.
Bush was so impressed when he made his scripted speech about the veto that he had tears in his eyes. Pretty neat when over 500,000 of those frozen embryos have to be thrown away soon. No stem cell research.
That week hundreds of children were due for extinction in Lebanon, thousands more dead in Iraq. I have never seen a tear in his eye. Our President is a liar and a hypocrite. He doesn't give a damn about finding a cure for anything .

No, probably he didnt; but to veto this will give him leverage somewhere else that he feels more important - or funding for elections. For sure he will not have done it because he simply thought it wrong, there will be something in it for him, his party or their agenda. I don't mean bribe or anything material like that, just extra political clout.
He also comes fro the bible belt; big anti-abortionists usually. Perhaps it was one for the folk back home who made him who is is!

If he thought it was a good thing, he wouldn't have vetoed it.

Dude I have a real job and I am taxed to death! The magic word here is FEDERAL FUNDING!!!!!!! That usually means a raise in taxes. Why can't private firms do the research.

He's doing what he feels is right. I respect him for that. To get stem cells, you need aborted fetuses. By endorsing stem cells you're basically saying abortion is a good thing. He's given scientists some stem cells to work with but up till now, very little has been proven by them. I have a hard time myself justifying killing babies no matter what.
