Alrighty, so a boyfriend and I just broke up but I still like him.. and I'm pretty sure he still likes me. BUT the relationship just didn't work out and, well, it's killing me really. But that's not the point. I need some good sad songs that will go well with this situation I guess is what I'm asking. I'm not as huge of a music freak as I used to be so obviously I can't think up any songs on my own.. Help please?

Goodbye My Lover by James Blunt is an incredibly sad song. It also sounds like it describes your situation.

I'm sorry you're going through this!

Sad songs

What makes a song sad? Well, all sad songs have meaningful lyrics that can touch your heart, contain no "yeah, baby" crap and, uh, well, just sound sad, I mean, there's something melancholic about the tunes. Ah, and most sad songs are written by real artists! Here's a list of my favorite sad songs.

Sad Songs

Eminem - I'm sorry Mama (Cleaning out my closet)

That's a sad song by Eminem, before he became too pop for my tastes. Really sad music and even sadder lyrics. Here's part of the opening lyrics.

Have you ever been hated or discriminated against? I have, I've been protested and demonstrated against. Picket signs for my wicked rhymes...

And here's the chorus.

I'm sorry, Mama. I never meant to hurt you. I never meant to make you cry, but tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet...
Blue ft. Elton John - Sorry seems to be the hardest word

The lyrics say it all...

It's sad, so sad
It's a sad, sad situation
And it's getting more and more absurd
It's sad, so sad
Why can't we talk it over
Oh it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word
Anastacia - Left outside alone

One of the best sad love songs I've heard recently. Listen to it, it's great!
Rolling Stones - Angie

Sad break up song - really nice.
Gun n Roses - Knockin' on Heaven's Door & Don't Cry

These two sad songs will likely bring tears to your eyes, especially the latter.

Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley. I never did understand why they used this song for 9/11, as it is clearly a break up song.
Ruby's Arms by Tom Waits. If you can find it, it's simply one of the saddest songs ever written,.also, Please Call Me Baby by Tom Waits.
Just When I Needed You Most- Randy Vanwarmer. A classic.
We Just Disagree- Dave Mason. This one says it all.
Who Can I Turn To by Van Morrison. Just heartbreaking.
Burn by Ray LaMontagne. The lyrics are fantastic, and so true.
Black by Pearl Jam. Gives me chills.
And don't laugh, but Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler.
I am a music freak, and can think of tons more, but I'll force myself to stop now.
Hang in there!
