Boland is a very liberal Democrat and Governor Rell is supposed to be a Republican. She has to appoint some Democrats, but why this one and why not a conservative Democrat? Is Rell a Republican in name only?

Probably becase she thinks him to be a good judge.

Frankly, Antonin Scalia moved up a few notches in my estimation by refusing to hear the DeLay case, barring the Republican party from removing DeLay from the ballot in Texas.

Probably because Rell was more concerned with Boland's qualifications as a judge than his political affiliation.

Which is the way it's supposed to work.

Why should educated, intelligent people, unlike you, elect, or vote blindly right down the "party line"? It's just stupid. The Governor appointed the best candidate.

She probably wanted a justice with an open mind, unlike a conservative justice would be.
