I've wondered this for years myself. The only reason I can think of is that sour cream is more labor intensive. Someone has to open the sour cream container, get a spoon, get a portion cup and then get sour cream all over their hand before the sour cream can go out to the customer. All that hard work is worth 75 cents!

that's a good question. My theory is that sour cream costs the restaurant a lot more than ketchup. You can buy a gallon of ketchup for almost nothing, but sour cream mostly come in individual size containers and they need to be refrigerated.

Lol, you have a major point there. Maybe the restaurants get ketchup for free or in bulk and sour cream is expensive? Or maybe because sour cream expires faster than ketchup? =D

Probably because ketchup is so cheap and readily available, and doesn't need to be refridgerated. Whereas sour cream can't sit out on the table all day without going funny. But I agree...EQUAL RIGHTS FOR DAIRY!!!

COG!, Cost of Goods, Ketchup lasts a long time and can be purchased(stored) in bulk, sour cream not so much. Unless you are running a baked potato restaurant.

Maybe it is because sour cream costs more per volume and needs refridgeration. Also it is assumed that ketchup is a natural accompaniment to certain items..like fries and burger.... While Sour cream is a requested item.

Sour cream needs refrigeration.
The exception is creamer for coffee, no extra charge for that.
People expect ketchup, but few expect sour cream.
Are you some kind of sour cream freak?

Where I work we don't charge for sour cream. I can understand charging since it is more expensive and requires refrigeration, but I can't believe when some places charge 60 cents for a little side of it.

I live in Canada, and at Wendys and Burger King, there is no charge for sour cream. Yesterday, i ate at Wendys and asked for 3 sour creams for my potato, no problem. However, at Popeyes Chicken, they charge 25 cents each for a packet of mayonaise.
