it doesn't matter if the formula is in a bottle or a sippy cup... the longest that the formula is good for is an hour and that's from the time that your baby puts his/her mouth on the spout of a sippy cup or a bottle....at least that's what the back of my baby's formula container says.

bacteria can start forming on baby bottles and sippy cups shortly after being exposed to a childs saliva. most times, this bacteria is harmless, but, exposure to prolonged unfavorable temperature conditions can actually create an environment desirable for the breading of unhealthy bacteria and viruses. I would never leave a babies bottle or sippy cup (after being used by the child) any longer than two hours in the refridge or a half hour out of the refridge. If, for some reason, the sippy cup is in temps exceeding 75 degrees f, I would dispose of, after 15-20 mins. If the child has not drank from the container yet, it is still not safe to leave the container out of cold storage for longer than a few hours (especially milk) as some formulas and milk will start to break down and their chemical make up will be altered, sometimes significantly.

If there's a little bit of formula left, we'll give our baby an hour or so to finish it off. After that, we toss it.
I remember reading somewhere that the timeframe can actually be longer (2-3 hours), but we err on the safe side.
Note about sippy cups...based on personal experience...make sure that you clean out the top part (where all the tubes are?) frequently. We've found bacterial growth in there...a dilute bleach soaking followed by lots of water washes usually takes care of it.

If you read the back of the can of formula it states specifically that any formula that has not been consumed needs to be thrown out. It does not matter if fed from bottle or sippy cup, throw it away.

To be honest I wouldn't bother saving it at all. It isn't worth taking the risk of going off especially in this heat. Make up smaller bottles if they are continuing to leave. Try giving them cooled boiled water for a drink instead of just milk. It is healthy for them and much more thirst quenching.

I followed the same guidelines as for a bottle. Throw out any that baby doesn't finish after one hour and you may refrigerate up to 24 hours.
