My daughter has started to run a high fever between 101.6 to 103.7... with no other symptoms... She doesn't complain of her ears hurting (she is prone to ear infections) and says it doesn't hurt to pee (UTI) , she did just have a lose tooth pulled by the dentist , that had the adult tooth growing in behind it already... and has 2 small ulcers inside her bottom lip.. I have no clue as to what it is.. and since it is the weekend my dr is not in to call but if her fever gets high enough I will take her to the ER. I am just clueless.. I have tried looking on the net for help too... any thoughts on what it may be ?? Thank you!

I forgot to add that she cannot take Tylenol, only because it wires her and she bounces off walls and she will not sleep for the next 24 hours... it's a reaction to it.

Hi, I'm a hospital technician and yes you should take her to a ER.
A fever in the 102 range that remains for a period of time can cause damage. It's better to be safe than sorry. There's a fairly good chance that she has developed an infection from the pulled tooth.
Please take her to a ER.

Oh, this is hard, it happened with my kids. Alternate her with Motrin and Tylenol. First give Motrin, then about 4 hours later give Tylenol.
Then give Motrin according to it's dosage instructions (I think it's every 6 hours). It gets confusing, I usually have to write it down on paper. Meanwhile get her to drink her fluids - water is best but also juice will be ok, or Gatorade or Propel flavored waters, whatever is mostly water and she will drink.

I used this combo on my son when he was <1 year old so it should be tolerable for a child who is 5 years old. Tepid baths and a damp washcloth on the head help too. The Motrin.Tylenol combo is usually a sure thing.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor or medical professional! I was advised to do this Motrin-Tylenol thing by my pediatrician.

Generic brands are also ok. Good luck.

My doctor always recommended besides the Motrin that you sit the child infront of a fan. It will help reduce the fever and keep it down. Preferably in front of the fan with only her underwear on so her skin can cool. I wonder if possibly she may have an infection where her tooth was pulled.

There are so many diff. illnesses she could have by what you describe...that is not the issue. Yes take her to the ER so they can get her fever down. The ER doc might not know and will refer you to a specialist after the fever is under control.

High fevers can cause permanent damage. I knew a little girl who had seizures from a fever that went unchecked and that's where my advice comes from.

ok, my guess is that it is an ear infection as the result of the tooth being pulled... the drainage from the tooh is thicker than ear fluid, and it can be an ear infection ABOUT to happen... the mouth ulcers? from the fever, and she may have a mouth infection starting, from the infected tooth.
