So you kind of answered your own question, right? Immigrants brought in just about everything, so the answer to what we eat almost everyday can change depending on where you are. Sounds like you think that's a bad thing. And hamburgers WERE brought in from outside the US. The only thing native to the US would be the Native American foods. No official dish, and no official language. Why does that bother you so much?

An "official dish"??? Just the sound of that is ridiculous. We are a diverse nation, with different cultures, with different foods. Is there supposed to be "like an official dish" that every single person in the United States eats or likes?
Our country was founded my immigrants, and millions of immigrants followed over the centuries, each bringing their own foods, and different ways of preparing it. To suggest that there is one single dish that we call our own, and that all cultures eat, doesn't make any sense.
What country do YOU come from? What is YOUR official dish? Are you saying that there have been no immigrants to your country who have brought their own foods, which have been assimilated into the culture?

seems to me you answered your own question about an official dish lol Hamburgers and apple pie are always associated with American food.
You have to also remember the United States is made up of many different cultural representatives. Hence the wonderful choices there are.
So what is your national dish?

I eat potatoes everyday, but that doesn't mean anything! At least potatoes can be made in a variety of ways, so it never gets boring.
If you only eat rice & ______ everyday, it may get boring. I like being able to change & eat food from all countries, thats why I live in the USA!!!! People in South & central America are Americans too! So I guess you are saying that between Canada down to South America, we all only eat hamburgers? I thought hamburgers came from Germany?

What the hell? America is made of immigrants. Did you miss 5th grade?
The junk is because people work for a living, sometimes two jobs, and don't have time to put a dinner on the table worthy of your consideration.
My wife is Chinese (an immigrant) and she cooks some lovely Chinese dishes. My mom is Italian, her grandparents were immigrants, she makes awesome lasagna.
What do you want? This question is foolish. I can't believe you expect all Americans to eat one "dish".

If you can eat it, then it's "real". It may not be healthy, but it's real. America has more nationalities than any other country, yet a lot of those who have come here in recent years seem to trash our country. If you don't like it, why are you here? I say this b/c you seem to be a little hateful in your comments.
By the way, in America, there are more dishes that could be classified as "regional". Different parts of the country have their own dishes. Research!!

Making "real food"- takes work. And work- takes time. And time- is something most americans don't have alot of- because they're doing 2 jobs, have an oversized lifestyle, and don't like to be told what they need to do -for their OWN good. So they eat supersized takeout all the time, get supersized rear-ends, and wind up with supersized medical bills- because they don't "know" any better. Oh- & by the way...-I remember hearing once, that our National "dish"- is the hotdog. So aren't you glad you come from someplace ELSE in the world?! Welcome to America!- Just be carefull that you don't pick up any of our bad habits...

Sweetheart, that's AMERICA, we're a melting pot of EVERY Culture. We don't have a specific cultural dish or official food because we as a nation have been made up of the influences from EVERYWHERE!
If you don't like it, then keep it to yourself. Learn a bit of HISTORY before you go calling things names. That just shows your ignorance.

How about apple pie? Isn't apple pie American? Oatmeal? My Japanese relatives associate America as "the land of the great big beef steak". Hamburgers and French fries are also associated with Americans even though they probably didn't originate here either.
