I have been "best friends" with a person of this nature for a very long time now. About ten years. In this time you can believe that I studied and scrutinized this girl to no end. Mostly on a discreet level, of course. She has a few distinct characteristics that intrigue me. Lying is a second nature to her, it is done without thought. I am pretty sure that sometimes she does not realize she's lying. And I'm also pretty sure that she believes the majority of her own lies, which makes it easier to quickly cook up more lies to cover past lies. This girl is an absolute pathological liar. A marvel to science. I'm a psychology major and I'm pretty sure I'll keep her around forever, though always at a distance.
And in direct answer to your question. This happens on a neurological level. Nothing more than chemistry possesses a pathological liar to lie the way they do.

I used to be that way. But then I turned 13 and actually got some pu$$y. Ten years later, no one believes me when I tell them about the amount of pu$$y I've received thus far in my life, and I don't know whether that's because I used to be a chronic liar or because they're just jealous of how hunky I am.

A compulsive liar. Well, here is some info on liars:http://www.livescience.com/humanbiology/060515_why_lie.html
For some people it is sort of a mental illness.
There are some people that lie all the time because they want to tell everyone what they want to hear.
Some do it for attention.
Some do it without knowing they do it, and they actually believe thier own lies! ARG!

There is social and psychological problem were in order to fit in our feel important the persons has trained themselves to have a answer and one up for everything stated or asked. It gets to the point were they are not capable of telling the truth.

Could be several reasons. They may be a pathological lier and cannot help themselves. More than likely they have low self esteem and lie to make themselves seem bigger/better. They may think people won't like them if they knew the real person inside so they make stories up to become more socially acceptable.

Yes someone I worked for. She would lie for no reason at all - maybe people just get into the habit of lying - or they think it is a form of control.

Compulsive liars? There's one Born every 10 minutes. Their fun to screw with and beat them at their own game though it it is a sickness. It's kinda mean, but if they've messed with you or your things, grill them and lie your head off. They deserve it until they get help.
