I love reading , will read almost anything except books in the Danielle Steele genre and paperback potboilers that aren't worth the trees cut down for them.
I see those paperbacks literally by the hundreds at rummage sales and my favorite used book store.

The late Dr. Glenn J. Morris.
He created an American martial arts school that has been recognized by some heavy-duty authorities in China and Japan as being on par with the schools from those parts of the world. He himself has also earned the respect of his peers (see his bio in the link below). More importantly, however, he wrote "Path Notes of an American Ninja Master" (and yes, he did record in later writings how he wished that he could change the title) which describes a step-by-step process with which a diligent practitioner can achieve enlightenment.
No, I'm not kidding, this is the full-tilt-boogie, internal-energy-boosting enlightenment that is the basis for all the genuine 'mystical' enlightenment experiences.
I'll freely admit that I'm too lazy and undisciplined to stick to the practice for the 90 solid days necessary, but what minimal practice I have managed to do have done amazing things for my visualization and balance.

I like Anya Seton. She wrote my favorite book, "Katherine," and a number of other good, historical novels. Most of them have been out of print for years, but they're starting to reissue them in paperback again. (Yes!)

I guess I like her novels because she really knew how to describe different places and times in a way that makes them pop off the page. And her characters belong in their environment. She never made the mistake of sticking a person with modern sensibilities in a culture where those ideas would be completely foreign.

But mostly I just like her stuff because it's good.
