"contact Alienware...expensive but the best"

your kidding an alienware for

", just basic use, internet, email, etc.,"

Lets spend an extra couple thousand dollars and not use any of the components in it good idea. Also alienwares are now made by dell anyways so depending on your opinion of dell and how much Dell leaves the original alienware designs intact.

You probably want about 512-1gb of memory nothing less nothing more you will never use more than 1gb for what your planning on doing and probably won't even use a 1gb. Harddrive since you didn't say you would be downloading anything a 60gb-80gb would be fine anything else will yet again be overkill.

Also do you already have a monitor?

I would recommend hp, acer, or emachines they are basic machines cheap the support is good for both HP and Acer never dealt with emachines. Don't whatever you do let someone like OC42 talk you into buying a very expensive maching you should be spending no more than 400-500 dollars or even less for what you need.

There also is the route if you want to try to build your own if you are interested.

you may bypass to the laptop industry at first, pay attention to a pair professional advice, try some desktops by utilising your self and then decide what form of laptop you may purchase.
