I danced on pointe for years, yes you are on your toes, they do bend just slightly from your weight. There are inserts that you put into the toe of the shoe that help stabilize your piggies. Yes, it is painful. :)

Dancers dance on the tip of the toe, usually the big toe. It hurts like hell, but you get use to it.
Basically the entire weight of your body is balanced on one toe. Which explains why, pointe is for advanced dancers.

u r on ur tip toes in pointe shoes. but so u don't have bloody toes and ugly toes from dancing on a piece of wood u can put dese pads in urs dance shoes! o and i recommend u use regular ballet shoes first before dancing in pointe and get ur legs tight 2 dance in pointe so they will be strong enough!!!

She is dancing on her tip toes - the ballet shoes are built for that.

When a ballerina is en pointe, she is dancing on the tips of her toes.

fatsausage is right, ur on tiptoes thats what theyre built for. That's why in the movie save the last dance when she takes off her shoes she has bloody toe nails.
