Average for a 10 week old girl would be between 10 lb. 12 oz. and 12 lb. 12 oz. Average for a 10 week old boy would be 11'14"-13'14". But *normal* can be above or below these numbers.

This is the newest growth charts--the first ones ever based on babies who are known to have been well-nourished. Earlier charts were based on large populations of unknown nutritional status, at a time when overfeeding was considered to be a good thing.

It really depends what their birth weight was. An average weight gain is between 4-8ozs per week. This is after the 2nd week since in the 1st week of life babies generally lose a few ozs (infact upto 10% of their birth weight is still considered 'ok' in terms of weight loss) - they then regain this this over the 2nd week - so at 2 weeks old they're often the same as they were at birth - but then they should gain steadily from here on in.

A rough guide at 10 weeks is..

For Boys - between 4.5kg and 7kg

Girls are slightly less than this.

Weight gain SHOULD be a gradual, steady curve - but babies rarely follow guidelines in a book - and some weeks will gain more, some weeks less, and some weeks nothing at all - it's a general pattern over time that is important.

Weight gain is also relative to length and head circumference - so even if a baby doesn't fall within a certain weight range - they may still be in the correct proportions for their size - which, like adults, come in quite a wide range. Remember that a premature baby may appear small on growth charts - but again - it's what they gain over time that is important - as long as they are growing - things are generally ok.

I hope this helps - as a reference - mine at 9 1/2 weeks was 13lbs 1oz (only a 2oz gain from the previous week, but he'd put on 8oz the week before - so an ave of 5ozs per week)

My daughter at her 2 month appointment weighed 11 1/2 pounds and was considered to be on the 25% for girls. My son and 2 months weighed 13 1/2 pounds and was on the 90% for weight. Usually whatever percentile your child is born on that is what they like to see them stay at as that is what I was told from one of my doctors.

My son weighed 7lbs 7oz when he was born. He is 2 1/2 months old now, and he weighs 14lbs, 4 oz. But every baby is different. Mine is a big eater, obviously. But it probably has to do with him being on rice cereal, his doctor put him on it due to reflux.

That really all depends on when the baby was born. If he/she was premature or over due.

All babies are different.
