Surely you jest.
Yes, we are top dog. That doesn't mean there aren't other dogs living here, or that the top dog can't die. Just means we're the baddest beast on the planet.
Comes from having the brains.

Humans, whether or not we know it are at par with other creatures in the dominion of the planet. It takes many different species to make a world.

We are in a better positon to take care of the planet but we do a poor job.

No, we're dumb in some ways and smart in others. When we study other species we learn it is never a good long term strategy for a species to be so aggressive. We see that population density produces stress, which causes heart disease and aggression, and a high mortality rate.
But we just don't learn.

We see what we do as 'progress' when we're really just reacting, not designing long term strategies or solving problems; and we see what we make as 'progress' when its really just change.
Whether the changes will be good for us long term or not remains to be seen.

We have posable thumbs - tis the only reason we have taken over planet earth.

I've heard that if cats had posable thumbs, they would rule the earth. I don't agree - I don't think it would be right to have the world ruled by satan's minions.

We are the dominant species, no doubt. However, our short-sighted, self-destructive behavior will catch up with us eventually (probably sooner than we think).
