You need a modem and hook your computer up to a phone line. Then make sure microsoft fax is installed. You will also need either a scanner or an all-in-one printer to put the paper in to be scanned so it can be faxed. I already had a printer so I bought a scanner, works great!

You Need to Specify the RESOLUTION of the Scanner. Basic FAX transmission is 100 Dots-Per-Inch , with Advanced Transmission being 200 Dots-Per-Inch.
You Need to Get OCR [Optical Character Recognition] Software installed on your PC and be able to SCAN, then OCR, then Send Document via Fax.
A viable product to FAX was Symantec WinFax Software, and others that converted your documents to Faxable images, and then connected with your MODEM to other FAX Machines.
I do not know if this product is still around. You have not Specified what TYPE of PC you Have [MacIntosh, PC-Clone, IBM PC etc] This makes a difference on the type of options available for you.
The BASIC Scanner software should be able to get a SCAN in either TIFF or BMP fortmat. This would allow you to send Pictures with some fax boards, But you still need to have the FAX modem available in order to send FAX [Pictures of Documents] from your PC.
Hope this helps, any items I have omitted please send reply. Add as much detail as you can. -Cheers TerrificInTahoma
