It was scary and exciting all at the same time. There were a bunch of parents around with their kids, just like mine. There was chit chat and small talk made all around but we all knew that within a few hours, our parents would be gone and we would be taking our first steps into adulthood...real independence...with noone to hold us back.
My first days at college were like a huge slumber party filled with lots of noise and staying up until all hours of the night. I wish life was as exciting as college had been.

I hated it. At first, I thought all my classes would suck. We had to play those stupid name games and say something interesting about ourselves in each of my classes. The teachers seemed really mean and the work listed on the syllabus seemed very overwhelming. When I went to get something to eat at lunch, the lines in the dining halls were so long. It was almost impossible to find parking, even though I had a garage pass. Then I got lost a few times and couldn't find my classroom numbers once I got in the building. Then I was late by 10 minutes to one of my classes. I didn't see any of my friends and it was kind of hard to meet new people when I was always in such a rush. Plus it was really hot, so that made everything worse.
However, after the first week, things settled down and then I loved every minute of it. I knew my way around campus, decided to pack my lunch, found a good study spot outside, met some great people, and joined a club. The classes were not so bad - some even ridiculously easy and the professors turned out to be nice. Things always seem to work out in the end.

You won't believe this, but it is true. My first college class was a summer Freshman English class held at a State Mental Health Hospital in TX. The class across the hall was Sophomore Government. (The teachers later married!) All the students were terribly nervous about the whole situation those summer nights, especially when the patients would have street dances and then try to bum smokes from some of us. Those of us who smoked were always afraid to say "no". I ended up with two whole summers like this. I went to college that fall and I guess my first day was pretty dull after that summer. My first class was sociology where I learned about mores and ethnocentrism and things like that.

well I played in the band so I went off to college a few weeks early, but my first official day was awful. I stood in a hundred lines for registration. But I met this really hot freak standing in the finincial aid line. I had hot sex all semester it was great!

For me it was all very exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. We had a week of orientation for just the freshmen, so it was fun getting to meet lots of new people. And everyone else was just as nervous as I was, which was comforting. Have fun, meet new people, try new things. You'll love it! At least until classes start ;-)

my first day of college was September 11, 2001, the day the terrorists attacked my country.
